Fillings, Crowns, or Root Canal: Understanding Your Options

Different tooth problems need different levels of repair. Here is a simple way to understand them.

Fillings repair smaller damage

When decay is limited, a filling can replace the damaged area and restore the tooth shape. Early treatment usually preserves more natural tooth structure.

Crowns protect weakened teeth

A crown covers and protects a tooth that is cracked, heavily filled, worn down, or treated with a root canal. It helps distribute chewing pressure more evenly.

Root canal treats infection inside the tooth

When bacteria reach the nerve space, root canal treatment may be used to clean and seal the inside of the tooth. The goal is to relieve pain and keep the tooth where possible.
