Caring for Sensitive Teeth
Sensitivity may be mild, but it can also point to decay, gum recession, cracks, or worn enamel.
Find the trigger
Cold drinks, sweet foods, brushing, or biting may trigger sensitivity. Noting the pattern helps the dentist narrow down the likely cause.
Use gentle technique
A soft brush and light pressure can reduce further wear near the gumline. Desensitizing toothpaste may help some patients when used consistently.
Do not assume it is harmless
Sensitivity from one tooth, pain that lingers, or discomfort when biting may indicate decay, a crack, or nerve irritation. A dental exam is the safest way to know.
